The three-day visit to Baringo by a team from Gersthofen town (Federal Republic of Germany), led by their mayor, Micheal Wolf, today signed a MOU with Baringo County Government. The MOU aims at strengthening the existing collaboration across various socio-economic sectors within Baringo County.
Baringo County Governor, Benjamin Cheboi lauded the friendship between the people of Gersthofen and the people of Baringo. Although we have had a relationship for a long time, we had not put it in pen and paper. The MOU therefore will guide this relationship. On his part, Gersthofen town mayor, Micheal Wolf, described the cooperation as a people to people partnership. He promised to make the partnership, which is so far worth 600 million Kenya shillings, sustainable.
Baringo Central Member of Parliament, Joshua Kandie, who is credited for forging the relationship while he was a student in the German province of Bavaria, urged residents of Baringo, especially the youth, to seek skills in various fields. I strongly believe that skills will empower us, the people of Baringo and Kenya. Skills will give us economic independence. Mr. Kandie revealed that five youth from Baringo will travel to Germany in July 2026 to further their studies and to seek for employment opportunities in Germany. He thanked the Gersthofen team for their support, especially to the vulnerable members of the society, including the school for the deaf and blind in Kabarnet.
After signing the MOU, the Orchestra performed at Kabarnets CBD area, also known as city clock to a crowd that formed fast, applauding the unexpected foreign guest for the Kenyan tunes. Cutting short the requests for more music, the team strolled down to the Kabarnet market where they donated 20 goats to women groups.
The key areas of cooperation spelt out by the MOU are: training and certification in German language, green energy and wastewater management, environment conservation, tourism, promotion of culture and sports and climate change action mitigation.
The German delegation participated in the conservation Kirdam half marathon and joined communities in cultural performances. They also made a charitable visit to Kabarnet School for the deaf and blind.
