As part of efforts to improve social accountability in the health sector, the department of health is in the process of developing value-based guidelines for election of Health Facility Management Committees in Baringo County.
Through support from URAIA Trust and Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance. (CEDGG), the department is today holding a day long consultative meeting that brings together participants representing the County Health Management Team (CHMT), Sub County health service coordinators, ward administrators, facility in-charges, Health Facility Management Committees (HFMC) and other concerned officials.
The guidelines are expected promote accountable and value-based leadership by ensuring that among other important attributes, the elected committee members ascribe to, and are bound by good governance principles and standards.
The development of the HFMC electoral procedures is necessitated by the need to have robust and inclusive Health Facility Management Committees, as they play key roles in the efficient delivery of effective health services, more so in Dispensaries and Health Centres.
Among the key roles HFMC plays include overseeing service delivery and management of respective health facilities; resource mobilization, planning, and budgeting; and facilitating participation of citizens in decision-making at the facility level.
At completion, the community will be sensitized to understand the roles of HFMC and the qualities expected of them before being selected to represent them in the important governance body.
CEDGG has been an instrumental partner of the County Government, collaborating in various social sectors within Baringo, with a view to improving service delivery through constant evidence-based civic engagement.
