Kabarnet Town is set for a major economic transformation following the official commencement of construction works for a modern market under the Government of Kenyas Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The leadership of Baringo County, in collaboration with the Kabarnet Municipality, formally welcomed the construction team to the site, marking the beginning of a project expected to enhance trade, improve working conditions, and uplift small-scale entrepreneurs in the region.
The modern market initiative, rolled out by the Government of Kenya, aims to provide dignified, safe, and well-equipped trading spaces for small and medium-sized enterprises across the country. In Kabarnet, the project is anticipated to significantly improve the operating environment for traders who have long conducted business under challenging conditions, including exposure to harsh weather and inadequate infrastructure.
For years, vegetable vendors, commonly known as mama mboga, alongside youth entrepreneurs and other small-scale traders, have operated in informal setups that limited growth and productivity. The new facility is expected to address these challenges by offering structured stalls, improved sanitation, and a more conducive business environment.
County leaders described the project as a milestone in advancing economic empowerment at the grassroots level, noting that it reflects the governments commitment to inclusive development and local enterprise growth.
Once complete, the Kabarnet Modern Market is expected to stimulate local commerce, create employment opportunities, and serve as a symbol of progress for Baringo County.
Construction has now officially begun, signaling a new chapter of growth and opportunity for traders and residents of Kabarnet.
