More than half of the population in Baringo has access to clean water, with an increasing number of households, particularly in remote areas, obtaining their water from boreholes. To date, 565 boreholes have been drilled across the county, 465 of which were constructed by partners and 100 by the Baringo County Government.
The Head of the Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Department, Dr Winnie Bore, explains that her department is increasingly focusing on improving communities access to water. We are concentrating on those areas where access to water is less than 50 per cent, particularly in Tiaty East, Tiaty West and parts of Baringo North.
Hope Water Africa, JICA, the World Food Programme and World Vision are among the partners supporting the strategy to increase the number of people in Baringo County with access to water through the drilling and maintenance of boreholes.
