Every Story Counts was the rallying call as the County Government of Baringo,in partnership with the Fred Hollows Foundation and Australian Aid, joined theglobal community in commemorating World Sight Day at Kabartonjo Hospital.
The event brought together healthcare workers, community members and development partners to raise awareness about the importance of eye health, promote preventive care and strengthen efforts to eliminate avoidable blindness. Participants highlighted the need for greater public awareness of common eye conditions and the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment in preventing vision loss.
Residents were encouraged to embrace positive health-seeking behaviour by scheduling regular eye examinations, seeking medical attention at the earliest signs of visual impairment and following professional medical advice. Early detection and appropriate treatment remain essential in preventing avoidable blindness and ensuring that eye conditions do not unnecessarily compromise people's quality of life.
The commemoration also provided an opportunity to underscore the importance of collaboration between government and development partners in expanding access to essential eye care services, particularly for communities that face barriers to specialised healthcare.
The County Government of Baringo reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening eye health services through strategic partnerships with the Fred Hollows Foundation and Australian Aid. These collaborations continue to support efforts to make quality, accessible and affordable eye care available to more residents across the county.
As Baringo joins the global campaign under the theme Every Story Counts, the message remains clear: protecting sight is a shared responsibility, and every effort towards early detection, treatment and improved access to eye care contributes to healthier, more productive communities.
